Weekend in Davao

Last weekend the family went to Davao. It was our treat to my 12-year old cousin visiting from the US. We stayed at the Pearl Farm on our first night. It was 40-minutes away from Davao City by boat. I think the whole island was called Samal. Near the resort were other private resorts owned by some of the Davao's rich and landed.

Pearl Farm was pure heaven! It had an infinity pool! The water was clear and there was actually many things to do. But staying there would cost a regular person an arm and a leg but we stayed there for free. They gave us only one night stay so we moved to another hotel in the city so we could also visit the sights there.

The second hotel was called Waterfront. Nothing spectacular though. We went to a seafood restaurant called Ahfat. By Manila standards, the food was quite cheap. For P2,600 we already had lobster, peking duck, and shrimp in our menu. The next day we toured the Crocodile Farm and the Eagle Center.

We haven't left Davao yet and we're already planning our next trip. My mom was suggesting spending both my birthday and my bro's (we're actually a month apart) in Bohol.

I know where I'll be on my birthday leave!

Explosion of the SUPERNOVA!

Last year while I was still unemployed I religious watched Rockstar: INXS. My devotion to it was similar to my devotion to American Idol. A filipino, raised in Australia and had a career in stage there and England, became famous there. Mig Ayesa, the third runner up, even came here in the Philippines and peformed in the MTV Pilipinas Awards.

Ten months after J.D. Fortune was declared the winner and the new front man of INXS, the second season of Rockstar begins with a new band... Supernova. A collaboration of members from Guns N' Roses, Metallica, and Motley Crue. Sorry but the only person I know there is Tommy Lee.

I stayed up all night just to catch the replay. I already have my favorites and a lot of them are girls. They were awesome last night and it's a huge change from the pop-ish show of American Idol. The fifteen wannabes here are more intense and more of a musician than those in AI. After all they must know how to write songs and most of them know how to play an instrument.

Three months of something to do on thursday nights!

Errata: my bro corrected me on some of the names... I have edited the changes already.

As the World turns...

Just some recent events to take note of...

North Korea tests four missiles. One long range that they say could reach United States, two short range ones that could reach Japan, and a medium range one.

American, Russian and Japanese world leaders are now concerned what these testings mean. Of course the president of the free world is monitoring these tests and sees it as a big threat to there country because 1) they realize how vulnerable they are, specially after 9/11, despite their claim as the most powerful nation in the world 2) they are busy in Iraq as it is and the possibility of another war could deplete not only their resources but also their power 3) and lastly, that another nation has the potential to be as powerful as they are. Japan also is concerned because the two missiles actually landed off the coast of Japan in the Japanese Sea. These leaders now would like to bring this issue to the United Nations.

But the country most concerned is of course South Korea. Any attacks on North Korea will greatly affect them.

Analysts believe that North Korea is trying to make a statement, that they can be a force to reckon with and have been trying to get the attention of the other world leaders.

Is this a start of another Gulf War? or and even greater war? A possible World War III?

**********

Germany lost to Italy. Italy made two goals a little over two minutes before the game ended. They were already on overtime. They are just waiting for the results of the France-Portugal face off.

I was hoping for a German-French face off.

See, I'm so sosy noh?! I'm watching the World Cup! Grabeh!!!

Oh Brandon! Oh Brandon!

Brandon Routh... sigh!

That was all I could do while watching him do his Superman thing.

The whole family... including our significant others... trooped to Rockwell to watch the movie. At first I tried to get tickets at IMAX. Good thing I didn't. P350 is too much money to spend for this movie.

Okay, I really had mixed feelings watching Superman Returns. I mean, the plot is the usual Lex Luthor wants to take over the world and all that crap but I don't know if I like how the plot went. I know that the twist in the story is blasphemous and sacrilegous for comic book lovers. After that discovery, what next then? Will there be suplings flying with Superman? And I kept expecting to see red lasers coming out of Cyclops' eyes, that he was just pretending to be Lois Lane's boyfriend.

Although it was a good movie, I think it still falls short from being the biggest summer flick of 2006.

But being the ditsy girl that I am, I had fun watching a hottie fly around in tights and red boots.
